“The Homework Stop” is an after school program that provides tutoring for children between the ages 6-17 yrs of age.  “The Homework Stop” provides safe and educational programs for children in the surrounding community.  

 “The Homework Stop” is located in West Las Vegas. It was started by a group of Al-Maun volunteers whose main focus is the education of families in low income communities, concentrating on programs that encourage youth to stay in school, stay out of trouble and provide a safe, decent and sanitary environment for the residents to reside.

It is “The Homework Stop’s” main goal to provide the community with a sense of community and a sense of personal empowerment. The end goal is for the community to build a foundation for a child. Its partnerships take place between the parent, school, child and community.

After school programs will improve the children’s grades and attitudes about learning because they have a safe, relaxed atmosphere in which to work.  After school programs give kids an opportunity to make friends, and to build relationships with caring mentors and adults.  They also involve the community in the enrichment of children and encourage families to become more effective partners in their children’s education and development. 

Last but not least, children will learn to respect people and develop better conflict resolution skills.
